The Toll-MTSTM
Solution
Toll’s Managed Transport Services (Toll-MTSTM)
is an integrated solution that delivers end-to-end management
and co-ordination of Logistics and Transport requirements.
The solution provides a comprehensive framework for managing
and administering all aspects of a corporations transport
requirements across multiple sites, modes and carriers.
Toll-MTSTM provides a scalable and flexible capability
that has proven to reduce supply chain costs and improve service
performance for existing Customers.
Value is delivered by Toll-MTSTM through:
- Central Management and Coordination of transport operations
and administration. Toll-MTSTM provides the interface
between all parties involved in transport services, including
Carriers (Toll and non-Toll), Customers and Suppliers;
- Operational Efficiency for customers through the automation
of many labor-intensive, paper-based processes associated
with the execution and management of all transport tasks;
- Real time visibility and control of supply chain information
using world class technology; and
- Optimisation of transport activities at an operational,
tactical and strategic level; applying structured performance
management, KPI reporting and a continuous improvement framework.
In addition, Toll-MTSTM contributes to a customer
achieving broader supply chain objectives such as a reduction
in inventory levels and shorter order cycle times, which
provides a basis for sustained competitive advantage.

Toll-MTSTM operational activities
encompass:
- Order Capture;
- Transport Planning and Execution;
- Track and Trace, Visibility and Alerts;
- Finance and Administration; and
- Performance Management and Continuous Improvement.
Order Capture
Freight transport
requirements are received by Toll-MTSTM. The method
of receipt depends on Customer capabilities (ranging through
to full B2B connectivity with an ERP system, such as SAP).
Transport Planning and Execution
The
Toll-MTSTM< Coordination Centre is supported by
the web-based transport management system GC3, supplied by
GLOG.
The Toll-MTSTM solution provides
the capability to optimise asset utilisation in areas such
as consolidation of LTL orders, and continuous move routing
(e.g. backhauls and triangulation) whilst minimising administration
costs.
Track & Trace, Visibility &
Alerts
Freight movement events through the supply
chain can be tracked on the web, providing visibility to all
parties involved.
Supply Chain Event Management (SCEM) is used
to monitor activities and generate alerts where a break in
business rules is identified. For example, where a load is
delayed, an email would automatically be sent to the receiver
notifying them of the delay.
Toll-MTSTM uses a number of methods
to communicate with supply chain parties (including drivers,
sub-contractors and agents) from the point of pick up to the
final delivery point. This includes telephone, GPS, In-cab
terminals, GPRS, IVR and the Internet.
Finance and Administration
Toll-MTSTM
automates the generation of a consolidated invoice, audit
and reconciliation for traditional billing, or reverse billing
for transport services performed. Costs can be assigned to
the appropriate general ledger accounts and then transmitted
electronically to a customers Transport Accounts Department.
Performance Management & Continuous
Improvement
Toll-MTSTM methodology uses
a structured and disciplined performance management process
with all supply chain parties. Performance is base-lined,
goals are set, measured, analysed and reported to achieve
continuous improvement objectives.
Toll-MTSTM addresses daily operational,
tactical and strategic requirements, providing the basis of
long-term sustainability for customers. This solution is suited
to organisations that seek market differentiation and competitive
advantage within their supply chain.
