TenixToll commits to regional jobs under Defence Contract
TenixToll Defence Logistics
has committed to providing jobs in regional and rural Australia
after its selection as preferred tenderer to manage the Australian
Defence Force's logistics across Australia.
TenixToll Defence Logistics is a joint venture between defence
contractor Tenix
Defence Limited and Australia's leading provider of integrated
logistics and transportation services, Toll
Holdings Limited.
The Defence Integrated Distribution System (DIDS) contract
will provide a reliable and efficient Australian Defence Force
warehousing, material maintenance and distribution service.
Tenix Group Managing Director, Mr Paul Salteri, said that TenixToll's
proposal would provide significant savings to the Commonwealth,
while respecting the unique requirements of Defence business.
Toll Holdings' Managing Director, Mr Paul Little, said that
"In bidding for the DIDS contract, TenixToll was conscious
of focusing on not only meeting the needs of Defence but also
on providing benefits for local communities.
"As part of our commitment, we met and exceeded all requirements
for local communities including creating sustainable opportunities
for employment, training and youth programs.
"As well as meeting all the Government's employment requirements
in rural and regional Australia, approximately 10 percent
of the workforce will be apprentices and trainees," Mr
Little concluded.
TenixToll Defence Logistics will employ in excess of 1,400
staff in 37 sites across Australia.
In a first for the industry, TenixToll will encourage all employees
to become members of the Defence Force Reserves, through a
range of incentives.
