Toll moving ahead in e-commerce

Toll Technologies announced today another e-commerce initiative in developing further capability for servicing the relocations market segment, with the acquisition of a majority interest in Movinghome.com.au Limited. 

“This acquisition will greatly enhance and extend the service offered by Removals Australia and strengthen its ability to serve the corporate relocations market,” said Toll Technologies CEO, Mr Mark Rowsthorn. 

Movinghome.com.au provides a one-stop-shop for home movers. It has established relationships with some of Australia’s largest service providers, which enable customers to arrange, for example, phone, gas, electricity and water services to the home, re-contract insurance, notify change of address and purchase a range of services for the move. 

This service will be a first within Australia when it is launched towards the end of this year. 

Movinghome.com.au CEO, Dr Steve Hodgkinson, said that moving home was an important life event that the company aimed to serve fully. 

“Our customers can transact business with many suppliers from the one web site. It’s moving made easy. 

“Moreover, because we are independent of the service providers, customers can review quotes and choose the product or service that best meets the needs of price and service”, Dr Hodgkinson said. 

According to Mr Rowsthorn, the acquisition of Movinghome.com.au, together with the release of the new web-enabled software systems to be launched later this month, represented excellent progress towards the development of Toll Technologies relocations portal. 

Removals Australia, acquired by the Toll Group in February 2000, is Australia’s largest removals management and brokerage service and has a unique information system as the core of its service to customers. 

“We are delighted with the progress of this business and we are well advanced with expanding its customer base, particularly in relation to major corporate clients. 

“We expect to announce new contracts over the next few months”, Mr Rowsthorn said. 

Mr Rowsthorn also noted that, “the Removals Australia developments come on top of the expansion of our internet fulfilment and home delivery services in support of Woolworths, who recently launched the HomeShop national internet grocery shopping business in Canberra.”
