Moving made easy with movinghome.com.au
Moving home need no longer be one of life’s most stressful events along with
death, divorce and career change. It can now be as easy as the click of a mouse.
Australia’s first online resource for helping people plan and manage their home
move, movinghome.com.au, launched today to take the stress out of moving home.
movinghome.com.au provides home movers with access to essential moving-related
services and tools that make their move simpler, faster and cheaper.
“movinghome.com.au will change the way people move in the future, by using the
power of the Internet to help them better manage the many different aspects of their move,” says the CEO of
movinghome.com.au, Dr Steve Hodgkinson.
“movinghome.com.au provides home movers with easy access to a comprehensive
range of essential moving-related services and tools at the one address available any time of the day or
night. It’s the sort of service the Australian market has been desperately seeking for some
time. It’s moving made easy.”
movinghome.com.au enables people to change their address; arrange insurance;
disconnect and connect their power, gas, water and phone; hire a removalist or truck; arrange storage all at
the one time. It also provides them with information, checklists
and tools that help them better plan and manage their move. Other
valuable services associated with moving home are in development and will be available soon.
More than 1.5 million households in Australia, about 20 per cent, on average,
move home every year in Australia. Australians typically move 11 times during their lifetime. “The movinghome.com.au service will be used by all home movers, but will be particularly relevant to
the younger, net savvy and more mobile segment of the population,” says Dr Hodgkinson.
Based on data collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, annual utilities,
home and garden, and moving services typically purchased or recontracted during each move, are worth on
average $3,200 per household annually. Not to mention all the
products and services purchased when in the process of settling in to a new home.
This creates a market of about $4.8 billion a year.
“This is a significant and valuable market for movinghome.com.au,” says Dr
Hodgkinson. “We expect that movinghome.com.au will soon become
indispensable for home movers, and will become the method of choice for people arranging a move.”
To deliver this unique service, movinghome.com.au has forged relationships with more than
30 leading and trusted suppliers, including AAPT, Associated Marine Insurers, Delta Rentals, F2 Interactive
Network, Grace Removals, Kennards Self Storage and Mortgage Choice.
“Customers are empowered to make informed choices and orders are placed online.
movinghome.com.au also makes it easy for suppliers and provides a valuable sales channel for these
companies,” says Dr Hodgkinson.
Toll Technologies, a division of Australia’s largest logistics and transport
company Toll Holdings, holds a majority interest in movinghome.com.au.
Toll Technologies CEO Mark Rowsthorn says, “Today’s announcement represents
another important milestone in Toll’s relocation strategy. We
believe that it significantly complements the unique, e-enabled removals information system we have developed
through our acquisition of the removals management business, Removals Australia.”
